Trades Win Support

The Trades Win Support Program is a specialized 11-week program that will help Internationally Trained HVAC Mechanics, Plumbers, Millwrights, Construction/Maintenance Electricians or Industrial Electricians:

  • Write and pass Certificate of Qualification exam
  • Obtain their Red Seal license
  • Attain Canadian work experience
  • Move towards employment in your field

This program is coordinated by Skills for Change in partnership with the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

This program will help you learn:

  • Ontario codes, rules and regulations
  • Upgrade your technical skills
  • Exam strategies for the Certificate of Qualification exam
  • Understand the trades labour market in Canada
  • Effective job search techniques: market research techniques, resume development, interviews, networking and targeting your job search to companies that need your specific skills and experience
  • Workplace and communication skills
  • Get connected to an industry mentor in your field

In order to participate, you must:

  • Be a Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee or Canadian Citizen
  • Have a Grade 10 or equivalent education
  • Be assessed at a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark level 7
  • Have a minimum of 4 - 5 years of experience in the trades outside of Canada
  • Have your documents verified by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Apprenticeship Branch demonstrating past experience
  • A keen interest and commitment to building a career in the trades
